Holmes Mill Wedding

Was a pleasure to be the photographer at Dan and Ben’s Wedding at the beautiful and interesting Holmes Mill in Clitheroe.

I took the history of this amazing venue from their website as they explain it obviously better than me.

A history of Holmes Mill

Established in 1823, Holmes Mill has grown from a humble spinning block to the beating heart of Clitheroe’s cultural and culinary scene.

Following its initial construction the mill quickly grew from one building to many, becoming a manufacturing complex and four-storey office by 1848.

With the expanding capabilities of the site came engines and boilers to power the new weaving shed. The most impressive of these was a Clayton, Goodfellow & Company cross-compound horizontal engine, installed in 1910. We call her Elizabeth, and you can still see her in all her glory in The Engine Room of our Beer Hall!

Alas, as heavy industry began to leave the north west, uses for the Holmes Mill site became more and more limited, and the complex fell into disrepair.

But (as you might have guessed) our story doesn’t end there! In 2015, the now Grade II-listed site was purchased by James’ Places Group. Although in poor condition, following almost 200 years of alteration and changes to accommodate a variety of uses and having lain empty since the 1970’s.

Our vision is to bring this beautiful building back to life and enhance the features it holds in abundance. At the heart of the whole complex is the new brewery and beer hall, a showcase for Bowland beers alongside many others from respected suppliers both nationally and worldwide.
